Summary | 0003321: Consider adding support to Rig Control to connect to radios via network interface
Description | Most new, high-end radios support a network interface and can accept control commands over TCP/IP. (For example: Icom IC-7610, IC-9700; Kenwood TS-890; Yaesu FT-101D.) Users will find this interface faster, and probably easier to configure and manage than the traditional serial-over-USB mechanisms available today. We should consider adding support to Rig Control to connect to radios over their network interface. This is a substantial enhancement which should be broken into smaller pieces and managed; probably a dozen or so work items. The connect dialog should change, and persistence of network-based settings should be implemented in a way similar to the settings we've got for COM ports now. We'll need to do significant work to the guts of the Rig Control app to abstract communications apart from the logic in the code so that any code working the radio just communicates and isn't concerned with the mechanism of that communication.
