| Description | Because the County field does not conform to the ADIF standard (county,state), then we need to find a way to combine county and state for the purpose of creating this very popular award report. | ||||
| Additional Information | Per the ADIF standards (https://www.adif.org/310/ADIF_310.htm#Secondary_Administrative_Subdivision), the US county is "<Two-letter state abbr.>COMMA<county name>" (with no spaces on either side of the comma). The ADIF standard is an "interchange" standard. It doesn't mean that the State and County both need to be stored in the County field. However, it seems logical that we would do that. The problem is - State and County are presently two separate fields; both potentially populated. The proper ADIF 'tag' for this data is "CNTY". So we probably would use COL_CNTY for this purpose. The question is - how do we get the data there without making a mess? This will require some thought and planning. | ||||

This has come up at every hamfest since the management change on 1/1/2018. |

Personally, I think we should write a conversion utility that grabs the State and the County and populates it into the COL_CNTY column. |

I'm attaching a CSV that has all 3,077 counties in it (per the award) in the proper format as specified by the ADIF standard: "<Two-letter state abbr.>COMMA<county name>" For example, "TX,Colin" We should probably put these in a drop-down list: - when DXCC = 6, 110, or 291 (this is Alaska, Hawaii, and United States) - limit State to the list of 50 US States (where this sometimes comes from the callsign lookup) and - limit the County to the values contained in this file (where this sometimes comes from the callsign lookup) (this prevents people from entering the data incorrectly) We will need a data conversion utility to get the existing data into the correct format.
